Yes it is protection. Noone is denying this. The EU is protecting the people, workers and companies in the EU. But China is not beholden to the same regulations, not the same worker rights and protections as EU workers and not the same environmental regulations so they can cheat and produce cheaper. Not to mention government subsidies by the Chinese government. This distorts the market because the products not represent the true price of the product. Hence the EU is creating tariffs to level the playing field. This in turn creates a fair and healthy competition of products in the Single Market. And in the long run China will not attain a monopoly on the market. And this is also saving jobs and innovation in the EU. Look what happend in America when you not do it.

Chinese people do not trust Chinese made products. Well known fact. They will buy VW and BMW if they can afford it.

Subsidies are only a problem for companies who compete from outside the Single Market. And frankly companies in the EU have nothing to worry about. 500 mio people. The largest and richest market on the planet. Why do you think everyone wants to sell in the Single Market and have access to it.

You mean this crappy new phone with the 8 yo processor because China is no longer allowed to import western tech?
1
On the contrary. She is doing that to protect European industry.

@Jkl62200 I am aware. And they do that because Chinese people do not trust Chinese products. Western products are always seen as superior. And sadly they often are. Because quality and innovation are severly lacking in China.

The EU cannot complain. Airbus won.

@newborn6 Hardly Boing lacks innovation and relying too much on government contracts. QA seen better days too. Hence the multiple series of airplanes who crashed. Without government bailout the company would be gone already.

That's just it ... the numbers will dramatically change over the next decades. And everyone wants a piece of it.

@jackjhmc820 Chinese EV vehicles are known to have serious battery issues being a terrible fire hazzard. Western batteries not quite as much thanks to QA and tighter regulations.
