Comments by "Aaron Okeanos" (@AaronOkeanos) on "How Finland is betting on nuclear power, and its waste | Focus on Europe" video.
Some contextual informations to that I recently got from a nuclear scientist. - Normal radioactive waste needs roughly 300,000 years to be as radiant as Uranium Ore again. - The current storage solutions of most countries are temporary and last only a couple decades before containment breaches can occur. - It is possible to recycle radioactive waste partially (fully is not possible) to make more nuclear fuel but it is expensive, much more expensive than just making more normal nuclear fuel. - Waste from recycled radioactive fuel needs only 10,000 years until it is as radiant as Uranium Ore again. - The ability of recycling radioactive waste allows automatically to split plutonium off from the waste which can be used for nuclear weapons. It is seen as a security risk when countries have this ability or facilities for it.

@Mpl3564 Not every country can do this the geology is only possible in selected regions of the planet due to the techtonic properties and geological properties. The idea is to send it all to Finnland for countries who can't have a solution but need one.

@unoriginalname4321 It is very expensive to do that economical unviable at the moment. It is known for over 50 years. And it comes with the ability to split plutonium off during recycling which is a security problem.

What France did not calculate in was that Green Energy one day becomes cheaper than even nuclear energy per MWh and that cooling water might become problematic in times of climate change.

@namename9998 France already has nuclear weapons.

It is still only an interrim solution.

You can make Green Energy from organics and there is hydroelectric power all works in the dark windless nights. And battery technologies are rapidly progressing.

@wiktorjachyra1869 Decaying organic matter is creating biogas. This can be used to burn CO2 neutral or make hydrogen out of it in time of low solar + low wind. Germany is seperating waste quite extremly and organic waste has it's own processing.
