Authoritarism on the left practically disappeared. Not even the so called "communists" advocating for overturning democracy in favor of dictatorial communism. None of them want to weaken or end democracy to ensure they stay in power. The right-wing does unfortunatly so I worry more about them.

Is your income over 120,000€ per year? If not I wouldn't worry you would not fall in the "tax the rich" category.

@user333-us4qz Someone has to pay the taxes there are costs involved living in a society. Especially one with public healthcare like France. Infrastructure, schools, etc. And I would prefer those who have less problems paying should be paying more which is the very concept of "tax the rich". Who knows maybe they can reduce your tax when they tax the rich more.

The right-wing would have had the same issue - not enough to rule alone. And she would had to do a coalition with Macron to have a majority.

What has the EU to do with French general elections?

When they manage to solve problems in the country and reduce existential anxiety by more housing, more public-safety, more education, better healthcare and lower the income inequality somewhat it doesn't matter what happens on the immigration front. Humans are tribal and when there is crisis the tribe shrinks.

The problem is that conservative voters like to conserve their wealth and things as they are this is why conservatives will never tax themselves fairly. The left has no issues with this. And taxing the rich is sensible it is the only source of money besides making more debt. But only the left touches this source. Guess why most media is right-leaning and trying to convince 50% or more to vote like them?

@jaisriram295 There is a solution to that. The centrists need to drop their policy of greed and help the left solving problems and not trying to be an obstacle. If they don't they will disappear in the next election.

@jasonplante191 It's called "tactical voting" you remove candidates who had lost anyway to help a party you would rather work with. And the other party is doing the same for you. A little horse trading it is not illegal. Happened in Britain last week as well and because the conservatives ruined the country in 14 years and pushed the most expensive mistake in british history Brexit.

Assuming Le Pen had won last sunday she would have had the same problem as the other two wings now have. Not enough to rule alone they would have needed a coalition partner. Would Macron's centrist-wing make a coalition with the right-wing to have a majority? I wonder if it hadn't been better that way for the left-wing for the next election. If the new government is not quickly solving problems in the country and reduce income inequality populism will have an easy game next election. The problem for the right-wing is once they are in charge their overpromisses, lies and general incompetency come out. If the centrist now not help the left-wing making the country better. Left and center will take the blame and the right-wing will probably really get a majority in France and then they will dismantle democracy from within to ensure they stay in power even when people begin to notice.
