We have no real borders between us anymore, we share money, we share economy, we share culture, we travel freely between us, more and more families are from multiple EU members ... why not let us protect from one force. In practise we do that already to a degree. Maybe we can further reduce the cost or use the current budget to make them more effective.

In practive our forces already work together either in the NATO, EU level or even U.N. but you are right, it must be made clear who controls this force and how it can be prevented from turning against the people or misused outside. Well in free democratic societies every force is normally designed in a way that it cannot turn itself against the people it is mandated to protect and follow certain base rules possibly even against political leaders. Normally this is achieved to bind them to the constitution. The last try in 2004 for an European Constitution almost succeeded 2 countries voted against it (from 25) but it almost happend. Looks like we need another try on that now 15 years later. And since we need to reform the political system of the EU as well we should consider doing both together to enter a new stage in the unification of europe where everyone has the feeling to be ruled fair and democratically by a commonly established system, something everyone can and want to live with. Often things on this magnitude are confirmed in referendums so directly by the people not their representatives not in all countries, but it was done by some and suggested for all last time as well and seems generally a good idea, so every citizen have a say in this and noone can say afterwards that it was "decided over my head". The majority of citizens in the EU are not really clear about what and how things happening in Brussel the other EU video shows that even professionals have their problems. And citizens only feel their own country is overruled from somewhere far only to their disadvantage especially since the media loves to emphasize the negative (EU bashing is loved by everyone it's easier to blame) and this must stop. It's there and it cannot go away again without repercutions on peoples everyday lives and the economy as GB is already begin to experiencing right now, so we might as well make it simpler and more transparent and with the vote and blessing of everyone. Kurzgesagt The societies and everydays lifes of EU citizens and the economy is already more progressed towards unification than the political system so it needs an upgrade so that we can continue to grow together. And having a reform of the political system and a EU wide constitution would be a huge next step on this way and may even lay the basis for a unified force as well. With enough trust build in the reformed political system over the years and probably decades who knows, maybe we come to the point where people are willing to go the last step and give up the original nation sovereignty completly for a real unified europe.
