  1. Facts you give them creates Cognitive Dissonance in their brains - conflicting thoughts - but instead of dismissing the one which makes less sense they drop the one they like less. In the absence of facts people believe what they like and dismiss what they not like. I not quite know how but try to reach them over emotion not facts. You might get better results than simple dismissal because they do work mostly on emotions. But try to avoid negative ones like fear, hate or anger try positive ones like love and hope. People always prefer those over negative ones.
