  1. Not just "What is a christian nation?" also "What exactly are christian values?" I want to know so I can compare them to human rights and simple decency, compassion, love you can have without being in a religion.

  3. What if I see no difference in someone with white skin and brown skin and black skin. Technically it's just different number of melanin in the skin everything else is the same. Close your eyes while you are on a busy subway station or a public place or a mall. Once you close your eyes you can no longer distinguish between people. Do you think something which can be made impossible with such a simple action has any real significance? Why do you need the feeling of being better than others? What are you afraid of?

Humanity now has something better than the threat of a hot place you go to after death or an angry devine being punishing you when you misbehave ... we have the rule of law, human rights, the Geneva Convention, a constitution guaranteeing base rights and protections but also rules to live by. Social norms enforced by religion is obsolete. And it was never reliable anyway because some found out nothing happens to you when break the rules and in some religions you could and can just pay money to get off the hook. Doesn't mean religion is obsolete just the "controlling" component. You can still believe whatever you want to believe in as long as you don't force your believe on others. This is the core of Freedom of Religion.

  5. The vibe I get is they think you must be a christian (what kind actually?) to be good and decent and whatnot. Well at least from the real believers there are others who want to use it as a vehicle to control and power.

  6. This is what these demagogues like to ignore. The time settlers left Europe for America was a time of religious division, rebellion and violence. Multiple types of christianity fought against each other and all mixed up with political and social chaos and the monarchy fighting for power with each other.

  7. You ask me? Well I think there will be nothing after I die. But I am not afraid of that. It will feel like the 2 billion years before I was born nothing and instant. Close your eyes and count to one. This is how ethernity feels like. This perspective reminds me that every day I do live is precious and should not be wasted. And I should enjoy my life and use it while it lasts. Perhaps there is a god, perhaps not and everything is different than I think. I don't outrule it and can tolerate others still believing in this. But it can be totally different as well: There is a short-story by Andy Weir called "The Egg" in that this universe is an egg to give birth to a god. We are all this god. Every being we meet in this universe is me to experience this universe, to learn, to grow and to make mistakes. Yeah I know sounds a little bit like reincarnation but not quite as the Hindus do. I really like that belief and it is as good as any other.

  12. And I guess over short or long they also end up in hell as "heretics". Fascinating now this sounds like Europe between 1400 and 1800 the exact time the founders left Europe for this very reason.

  13. Like so much else on this planet. What is your point? And if you want to say "made up" I'm afraid you will reach a wall because cannot prove or disprove that god exists. Therefore we introduced freedom of religion. Believe in whatever you want to believe it. And seperate state and religion to ensure all religions have a fair chance as well as those who don't believe at all.
