This is also the reason why Germans feel uncomfortable with Nationalism especially their own even if there is a positive reason for it. And it resulted in Germans having a fine nose for Facism to this day and why Germans make good diplomats and negotiators because they are able to take themselves out of the equation.

The Real Nazis adopted the name "Socialist" in hopes to get all the impoverished low-class worker who shown interest in Leninism, Socialism and Communism on board his party (a real threat to all political parties). And it worked. But translated to 21th century America it would be as the Republicans rename themselves to "Republican Socialist Party". That's why it does not make sense.
