Your assumption is that NATO ever planned to invade Russia. A ridiculous idea for multiple reasons. 1) Western Nations no longer use military conquest to expand territory 2) NATO is defensive only 3) Russia is a Tier 1 military nation 4) Russia is also a Nuclear Power

@anonagain You have to understand Putin. He said himself decades ago that "Ukraine is not a real country". Add to this Putin's regret of the end of the Sovjet Union and his ambitions to revive Russian Imperialism. Than add to this that Ukraine was a Free, Independant, Democracy and more importantly Prospering Democracy right on his front doorstep telling all Russians: "See the gras is greener there" and you have a more realistic picture why Putin needed to do something. All those arguments and lies about NATO and "Denazification" and Buffer-States is bullshit. Cheap excuses for Putin to allow him to justify an invasion and ensure in case it fails that Ukraine never becomes NATO member which makes a later invasion almost impossible for him. Ukraine never asked to be NATO member until Putin invaded and stolen Crimea. And than Donbas and now the rest of it and it will not end there Moldova will be next also not a NATO member.

NATO = An attack on one is an attack on all = Invasion-Insurance You cannot use it to invade. NATO was activated only once so far on 9/11 everything else was maybe an operation by one or multiple NATO members but not with NATO help or as a NATO operation or in the name of NATO.

That being said. Imagine NATO forces go to a Non-NATO country and Putin using the weakness to invade an actual NATO member like Estland or Latvia or Poland even. There are 7 NATO members around Ukraine or directly bordering Russia it's extremly difficult to defend such a large area. Explain to those NATO members that their defense has been weakend in favor of a Non-NATO member.
