  1. There was once a guy in a prison who thought about this: "How could people become like that." And he was executed shortly after for conspiring to assassinate Hitler. But managed to smuggle out his notes. His name was Dietrich Bonhoeffer he called it the "Theory of Stupidity" You cannot reach people like that with facts, reasoning or logic. They think on emotions alone thats why even otherwise intelligent people can be like that. Arguing with them can even make it worse and they might include you as part of the conspiracy. You may reach those people on the emotional level if you have a strong connection to them and they realize how their behaviour is hurting you. But this only works when the connection to you is more important to them than the topic of debate. And even if you manage to reach them emotionally than ask them only to suspend political news and commentary for 2 weeks or more. Maybe a vacation or holiday with no internet or newspapers and TV, or a deal in which they let it go just for this time. The idea is to cool them down from the anger and hate and break the addiction to news and even to anger. If you think they are somewhat reachable sit down with them and explain how it comes that you think as you do, where you got your information from and how but leave them otherwise alone and not force anything. Do not talk about their opinion and do not argue about their opinion just your own. Let them come to their own conclusions. And react only if they come to you and ask questions that's a sign that they are willing to listen. This is my personal strategy on this assembled over a couple years. I'm not an expert.
