  1. Without immigration the problems in the US would be much worse. It's quite simple and quite reasonable: There is something called demographics. To maintain a population you need 2.1 children per family. And America as most other rich nations is well below it. People cannot afford kids anymore and the greed, wealth and income inequality made it hard for couples to have kids without proper housing, proper money, proper healthcare, proper childcare, proper education. Immigration provides workforce without the growing up phase, the education phase. Immigrants are often young and able to put to work immediatly doing the jobs Americans prefer not to do anymore. Society would fall apart without this influx.

  2. Sometimes I really wished you could do all what the right wing wants to do and let it simmer for 50 years (probably less with the serious issues with it) and ask them after it how they like it. Maybe Hollywood can pick up on that idea ... at least until we invent the Holodeck.
