Regarding the problem with unemployment. What America is experiencing are the negatives sides of unregulated free trade something the Republicans are very fond of because it creates them extreme gains by cheaply buying/producing outside the US and selling expensive in the US. And it's destroying jobs and the wired thing is the people buying those products in the US are indirectly financing the end of their jobs in the long term. This issue was early recognized by the EU that's why they changed their strategy. They allow extrem free even seamless trade without any tariffs or controls within their trade zone (The Single Market) with strong regulation forcing everyone to apply the to the same rules (The Level Playingfield) pushing for fair competition in the market but allow no cheating by importing cheap goods without the same regulation from the outside. And it's a sucess modell. For a lot of companies producing in the EU cost the same as producing outside (because of high tariffs) so they consider staying in the market and benefit from close/timely transprots and create jobs there and instead try to reduce costs and increase efficiencies. This helps conserving jobs to a degree. The downside. Every outside trade deal especially the free ones must carefully be negotiatiaed to not offset this balance. What I would suggest President Biden is taking one or two pages from the EU's experience with it introduce the same and arrange a Free Trade deal with the EU under those conditions. It will create the strongest and largest market on the planet and will be a new economic engine for the hole planet. The downside for the US: It must learn to introduce and live with customer protection, worker protections and worker rights, environmental protections, fair taxation and more consumer protection and regulation on the financial market to prevent new fiancial crisis like in 2008. The most difficult lesson for the US will be to learn, that not all can be let run free without sideeffects and sometimes a strong state is needed especially in areas which are or should be Non-Profit or base-needs like water, power, communication, transport (bus/rail/local transport), mail/postal, healthcare and education (schools AND universities).
