  1. The problem is at some point you reached the bottom of what's possible. And if you continue to cut down spending it leads to more criminality, more healthcare issues, more decaying infrastructure, and and and basically the whole society is starting to fall apart and people notice and want a change and they take whoever promise improvements. But last time they fall for Trump who only made it worse so now the left has a chance ... and using it.
