She declined his G7 in-person meeting due to Corona he wanted to hold in Mara a Lago (probably to prop up his hotels finances) and since then was holding a personal grudge, but it was not the only time for friction between the two. This was his real personal reason and fits right in his flawed personality. Excactly like his denial of the 2020 vote. Add to this that Trump has good connections to American Weapons Manufacturer and/or has stocks in them and wanted to use the excuse that Germany not quite reach the 2% budget for NATO to make Germany force buying american weapons.
