  1. It's actually dangerous. Human brains are not made to hold contradicting thoughts at the same time. It leads to a condition called cognitive dissonance. It feels like "thinking without keeping a proper footing". Cognitive dissonance is the first step to mental issues. It errodes trust in reality and your own senses and ultimativly clinical insanity. EDIT: This is why most humans naturally try to avoid these and react avoiding, rejecting or even aggressive if facts are presented to them which threatens their choosen idea/view in their heads because it makes them more insecure and unsure again. The alternative is to assume you "might be wrong" and "don't know all". This is what we call "being open minded" or even "humility". It allows you easier to adopt a new view when the facts change or your hear something new or as here ... detecting a contradiction. And exactly THIS is missing with a lot of Right-Winger. They are so sure of themselves and not allow even themselves to challenge them. Or as Shakespear formulated it "This above all: to thine own self be true"
