Don't call them stupid. It only pushes them further away. Don't try to ague with them based on facts. It pushes them only further away. They can't defend themselves against you that's why you only push people further away. If you make a mistake and argue wrong you can even make it worse. If you really must than argue from yourself by explaining why you think what you think and how you come to this conclusion. That way you do not attack those people directly with arguments and appear less aggressive you open up a way for them to understand you without being coerced into it. Try to make a connection on the emotional level. It's the only way to get through to them. This is especially successful when you are family, related or friends. Make them understand what effects their thinking, saying and actions have on you and your relationship with this person. To most persons family or friendship are more important than political opinion. If you can try to avoid political subjects, again try to connect on personal, emotional or family level. Try to seperate people from political media but carefully not by forcefully taking it away. Offer them something else to engage them in something more intresting for them. The longer you can keep affected people away from any political news and opinions for a while the better people change and even might lose interest. If you yourself are affected by this. Just try to ignore all political media for 2 weeks. Just shut it all off and do something else the world can and will continue without you. You lose this feeling of "missing something important" this strong hunger for more input after some days and you have a chance to go back to a normal level. And be absolutly honest to them. Don't try to hide things or even lie it can destroy every progress you made if you are found out. If you don't know anything be honest and tell them. People can understand that you don't know things but making something up or lie can make it worse than before.

There is a fix to this situation. A fix which does not require years of education or even starting from scratch. But it's currently impossible to implement because "the well is still poisoned every day". The solution is to stop the lies or better to implement more protections for the Truth in our society. Even people with low education can make good decissions when they are only confronted with truths. Best example for this are court cases as jury. The people listening all day to truthfull statements (mostly). It's enough so even their limited critical thinking is able to make good decissions. But as long as people lie without anyone pointing it out, as long as political opinion channels like Fox, Newsmax and OAN poisining the environment with lies there is only a little chance of this fixing itself. Mostly in cases when those channels go too far and people realize something is off. What we actually would need is some kind of guarantee that we are not being lied to and that people who do lie are responsible for the use and all consequences. Sadly at the moment this only happens when someone has a financial disadvantage through lies. We call this defamation. But we would actually need something better, something more general, something a little like in courts where intendly lying can bring you in serious jeopardy. And it would need something which is limiting Freedom of Speech. And since the only rights which can limit other human rights like Freedom of Speech have to be human rights as well my suggestion would be to implement a new human right a "Right for Truth" alongside "Freedom of Speech". Legally it creates a basis, a framework to make liars responsible for their lies. It will not end lying, but people who do better have a good explanation why and are in any case responsible for their lies.
