FYI: Yes it's "Sir" Kier Starmer. He got his "Sir" as honor for his work in public prosecution. It is not an awarded or "buyed" title via the House of Lords. And he is not bragging about it or using it often himself.

Sorry David it doesn't work like that. Britain used tactical voting this time. It means some candidates from left-leaning parties stepped back to give a more likely candidate a chance to win against the Tories and Reform UK (right and far-right parties). The same was done in France. Center and Left coordinated some candidates and dropped out so only one non-right wing candidate remained. This doesn't work in America because there are only 2 parties. Edit: Okay to be fair. Yes vote-splitting can be a factor when you have 3rd parties/indendent parties/candidates involved but in America there rarly reach signifcant numbers so in the end it often goes to just 2 candidates from 2 parties.

It's not so easy to compare. Britain has FPTP as the US but they have multiple-parties on the left and right which complicates this. In fact the voting system is hotly debated because it was so extremly unfair this time (Labour has only 33% on the public vote but 2/3 of all seats). And Britain is special anyway because of 14 years of Conservative rule and Brexit in particular turned out to be a big mistake. France has a proportional voting system and really a lot of parties and a particular splintered left and a very persistent right-wing which is family bussiness. The main point to take away from both elections is: Be careful of populism. It thrieves in times of problems and dissatisfaction and is currently riding high on the waves. Be careful of social media misinformations, bot attacks, potentially AI and targetted advertisements.
