Digrams (sh, ch) are absolutely not confusing, except for "th" which can either be voiced (that) or unvoiced (thief). I propose using "th" for the unvoiced "thief" and "dh" for the voiced "dhat". If you want to bring back ancient letters for these two sounds, you should bring back both thorn and eth. Otherwise, you're not actually simplifying spelling...

The real problem with English spelling is the vowels, not the consonants. English vowel sounds don't make any sense whatsoever.

The reason to not bring back the letter eth is questionable. A lot of letters of the Latin alphabet look similar to other letters in other writing systems/are not used the same way in different languages, that's not a reason we should stop using them. Especially since "eth" and "thorn" could write two different sounds: voiced and unvoiced th.
