As a left-winger, I don't understand why the left hasn't adopted a tougher stance on immigration. Immigration from some countries doesn't work and only creates more tensions inside our societies. That being said, the Italian "left" (I assume you're talking about the PD) has also betrayed on economic issues, with its neoliberal, technocratic and pro-austerity agenda that I consider fundamentally right-wing.
1
You can drop the "European". A federal Europe would be a US puppet. It's already the case.
1
@WodospadPelagia But then Germany bleeds countries like Greece dry when Germans didn't have to pay war reparations for destroying Europe. Worst country ever.
1
If we want to curb immigration, we need to put a stop to US wars and destabilization in the Middle East and the IMF destroying developing economies.
1
@the11382 The far left isn't in power anywhere in Europe.
1
What left? There's no far left party ruling any Western country at the moment. The EU is ruled by a German "conservative".
1
Far left? The far left doesn't promote the EU at all. Also, opposing the far right isn't just a left wing thing.
1
The Left isn't in power, it's neoliberals...
1
Same but in France. Power to the people. 🚩🇫🇷
1
How is the US an example for anything? I prefer democracy and healthcare rather than being a huge empire with a fake democracy.
1
@Greatshadowfighter Iran, China and North Korea are not our enemies. And a federal Europe will remain in NATO, under American rule.
1
So instead of Putin, we should let the US and Von der Leyen destroy us.
1
Nothing convinced her, she was always pro-EU and pro-NATO. Meloni is an obvious plant of the oligarchy. Also, there is no "left-of-center majority in the EU". There are only technocratic and neoliberal pro-German stooges in Brussels. Now, Meloni will just push for a little less immigration and more culture wars.
1
@autumnjacaranda106 They will tell you lzIam but they completely forget that the causes of immigration are America's wars in the Middle East, IMF and Western companies exploiting poorer countries and neoliberalism/bosses in Europe who wants cheap workers and a growing population to fuel capitalism/economic "growth".
1
@KungFuWizardOfJesus And people buy into this because they feel that their economies and standard of living have declined. Instead of addressing these points, the system redirects this anger towards scapegoats. Neoliberalism (and neoconservativism) are the causes of all of this discontent in the West. These ideologies cause the impoverishment of workers and the middle class by having them compete with Chinese products, they cause immigration by supporting wars in the Middle East and the IMF/corporations exploiting poorer countries. The cause is neoliberalism. The answer is an actual left that combats this forced globalization that harms the planet, our economies, workers, democracy and peace. Not the neoliberal "center left" clowns that rule the EU with conservatives.
1
Every mainstream party in Europe is against democracy by enforcing neoliberal policies that Europeans don't want. I'm all for banning this corrupt fake democracy and replace it with workers councils.
1
@Freyia935 Would you be as opposed to Spanish people in Germany waving their flags for football matches and having shops with Spanish writing on the storefront? Do Germans who live abroad suddenly become patriotic for France or Spain? Also, it's difficult to be proud of your home country when its government support the massacre of Arab and Muslim people abroad.
1
@achilleskoliakis9288 Far left??? What did the far left do? Call out neoliberalism? This thinking is normalized in lzræI but Germany has no issue selling them arms to carry out a Jean O'cide. So hypocritical.
1
@foxy6144 It's the good old 1920s-1930s again 💀
1
Why would Sweden ever want to join NATO? It isn't threatened by Russia and it only makes them more dependent on America. What's funny is that wanting to leave NATO is considered extremist in France (and probably the rest of NATO members).
1
Leftists criticize elites 😭
1
Macron is not far left at all, what are you talking about? Are you mentally deranged? The left and the far left despise him because he mutilates protesters in social movements, he ignores the Parliament, he's the "President of the rich", he works for lobbies not for the people (lately raising the retirement age, it sounds far leftist to you?), he's so corrupt and he can only stay in power thanks to his violent police. Your political compass is completely messed up. Far left ≠ neoliberal BS. Jesus Christ, open a book once in your lifetime.
1
@dannyatthebeach He's an authoritarian neoliberal. He's definitely right-wing and most French people agree. Only 16% think of him as being left-wing.
1
Exactly and EU fans think this is peak democracy when the US have shown us that this model of "federalism" doesn't work.
1
@blackhole3298 Huh? The EU is already the US' lapdog.
1
Meanwhile, Orban, Meloni and the PiS are all gay-friendly. The actual left wing also opposes NATO and Western destabilization of the Middle East and they oppose the IMF and big corporations exploiting poorer countries, all of that fuels immigrations towards Europe and resentment towards the West. What does the right wing do?
1
On the other hand, the Danish Social Democrats could be considered far right judging by their immigration policies. These guys are sending people back to Syria claiming it's safe 😂
1
@spiderlily218 France also has to deal with the descendents of immigrants that are not taken into account in these numbers.
1
@n6rt9s No, they aren't. The working class, especially the poorer wokers, do not benefit from immigration, it increases the competition on the job market. They do not benefit from the rising tensions inside their countries. They do not benefit from crime. They do not benefit from terrorism. They do not benefit from feeling like foreigners in their own countries. Mass immigration is a failed experiment pushed by neoliberals. Stop being a useful id*ot.
1
It's not just because of Green parties but also neoliberalism (free trade with countries with cheaper workforce) in general and the euro which harms a lot of economies.
1
@wolfgangrenner4152 The euro is one of these faulty economic policies. Only Germany has benefitted from the euro, the other countries haven't. Meloni (and mainstream parties) are pro-US, the other parties are pro-Russia. In the end, we're just puppets are both countries.
1
Meloni is literally taking orders from Draghi. Nothing has changed and nothing will change.
1
@waetschie Why unify Europe when we have different ideals, interests, histories, values and that states that are too big always end up lacking democracy (example: the US, India)? It's our diversity and sovereignty that have made Europe a powerhouse in the first place. And seeing the last decades, the more powers the EU gets, the poorer and less relevant our countries get on the global stage. Brussels is just lobbys' HQs.
1
@dannyatthebeach Was it racist when colonized nations said they didn't want more Europeans to settle their lands? When they sent Europeans back to Europe after their independence? I don't think so. They had every right to defend their lands from invaders and colonists. Muslim immigrants and their descendents do not integrate and they have values that are opposite to ours. Just look at us in France, with our riots, this will be Europe's future if mass immigration continues like this. Immigrants also have a higher fertility rate than native Europeans meaning that they will potentially replace our local populations. I don't know if you've seen the US but a multiracial country doesn't work. At all. Every country has the right to choose who crosses their borders, who can settle and who has to leave. If Europeans don't want Muslim immigrants, it's our choice. If Muslim countries don't want to allow Europeans in, it's their choice.
1
@definitlynotbenlente7671 Look up all the corruption inside the EU parliament, the vice president was bought by Qatar. There are two times more private lobbyists in Brussels than in Washington DC. The treaties can't be revised democratically according to Jean-Claude Juncker. The EU is not really democratic and having to unite with countries with vastly different interests (as France and Germany regarding military, energy, or South and North Europe regarding the euro and austerity) is self-sabotage.
1
@definitlynotbenlente7671 But they are now handcuffed to the EU. It's either you leave and destroy your economy because it is tied to your neighbors or stay and accept to lose all power and sovereignty. The UE of decades ago wasn't as powerful and yet our countries were in better shape.
1
@cuginidifrancia94 "Crypto-fascists"??? And if you side with the US, what are you? You're saying that with the logo of the Brothers of Italy, a party that descends from neofascism. The irony 😂
1
@ermengardalombardi906 Go live in Iraq if you think the West is so great and hasn't destroyed the world.
1
The left could win if it adopted a stricter stance on immigration, dropped culture wars and focused on more investments in the public sector instead of going neoliberal.
1
@aghileshemdani3144 Enough with these lies. Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Polish people helped rebuild France after WW2. Africans and Arabs have only managed to destroy it. Is it also France's fault that thugs are now looting and burning their own neighborhoods? Setting schools on fire? Good luck getting support after that. If France is so racist, we shouldn't allow Africans or Arabs to move there, for their own safety. Oh wait no, they love France's social benefits and welfare too much without even trying to integrate. Mass immigration failed.
1
The Left 🚩 Down with this neoliberal EU which is crushing the peoples of Europe, make workers fight economic wars against each other and lets foreign powers control our continent.
1
@WurstWesen82 The SPD is neoliberal, not socialist or actually left-wing. Have you guys slept during the last 40 years? Compare their programs now and in let's say the 1970s. Every center "left" party in Europe is economically right wing (promotes free trade, austerity, submission to the EU). That's why our economies have been destroyed.
1
He's not the one deciding of the labels, all of these parties are generally seen as far right.
1
@Doge811 That's because Europe has a stronger safety net and more workers' rights to begin with but I don't think Meloni is really pushing Italy to the left in terms of economics.
1
But Tusk is right wing, he's just a neoliberal shill. That's not a 180 like if Poland voted for the far left.
1
You know you don't need to unite with a country in order to have a military alliance/defense pact? According to you, all of NATO should unite (to be fair, we're all US puppets, so whatever).
1
@blazer9547 In my opinion, it's the best solution.
1
No idea why? NeoIiberaIism. When you destroy everything from unions, nations, welfare, people will be angry and the system will redirect this anger towards convenient scapegoats instead of addressing the real issues.
1
@Lemmy4555 NATO and a European Army are polar opposites. Under NATO, this "army" will still be an American military force in all but name.
1
@czechoslovakpatriot4773 Israel are the occupiers according to international law and are the ones carrying a genocide 🤷♂️
