@pits.893 Huh? Forgot about colonization and slavery? Martinique, Guadeloupe, Guyane, La Réunion are not in France? We have a similar story to the US on many aspects.

@mikhael636 "France has done more for non-white people than any other country", for real? Have you forgotten colonization, slavery, le Code Noir, numerous massacres and wars when "ungrateful colored people" wanted independence? The difference is that France has done a great job to hide it. But like every repressed memory, it always comes back.

Damien Jäger Except people ARE not colorblind and this is why we need to talk about it. Also those who claim they are colorblind can't recognize their own racism or systemic racism, as if it was only an individual issue. It's not.

@pits.893 And does our assimilationist policies work? Why can't people speak French AND their heritahe language? Do you hold the same view about Italian immigrants who speak Italian with their fellow expats, their children? English expats? Spaniards? The Portuguese? Probably not. These languages are part of their identity and they don't deny their Frenchness. Personally, I'm very sad of not being able to retain my mother tongue (Hindi) because of the same views than you hold.
