  1. Do you have evidence that people generally hated their architecture in the past? Except for a few famous examples like the Eiffel Tower, I don't think it was common. Even in the case of the Eiffel Tower, it was quickly beloved and adopted by the peopoe. Moreover, there are many more buildings that look like the Portland building and some are still being constructed in the same style. And they still look ugly.

  8. Okay, I ain't a fan of the building but to say the renovated one is vastly different than the original is a stretch. Not that I'm sad about it being delisted.

  9. Also, if such a conservative restoration is already too much for some, let's just totally redesign it with new tiles etc. I feel like there's potential under all that stucco.

  11. And that's why I feel frustrated with the architecture elite. None of them cares about the public or beauty. Variety isn't the problem, variety in ugliness is.
