I agree that the web has a lot of advantages when it comes to the development and distribution of cross-platform software, in part because operating systems have failed as a distribution platorm (paid developer accounts, bad app signing requirements...). But I agree that with Tsoding and Jonathan Blow that the Web could be much better, it has problems because it did not start out as a distributed software platform but as a bunch of static hyperlinked documents. The design of things like CSS and JS are definitely suboptimal and their implementation and behaviour are by no means trivial to understand. This is both a problem for web developers as well as browser vendors. People will use the Web as the best standard platform until something new comes around. The question is, when will a simpler, easier to use Standard come along that has the momentum (it is hard to gain enough users!!!) and freedom and power to replace Web? Probably not in the very near future.
