In fact the UK's handling of this has been almost as bad as the US. For instance, it's failure to take early preventative measures means it now has the highest death rate in Europe. The govn was forced, kicking and screaming, to do the right thing.

The US economy will take much longer to recover, with longer high unemployment. The retail and service jobs will come back immediately, but the manufacturing jobs will disappear, possibly permanently. Since other countries are keeping their small manufacturers afloat, those companies will be able to quickly fill the hole created by the collapse of the US companies. In other words, the US government is actively crippling the country. And frankly, I see little active reaction from the Pelosis and Schumers of the supposed opposition.
