I don't understand why John is constantly surprised by the numbers. It was always going to be bad; at least 1.5% were always going to die, it is a given. It is clear from the way Covid behaves that everyone is going to catch it at some point. The reason for the lockdown was only ever for the purpose of stopping a spike so as not to overwhelm the hospitals.

@Arcadia61 Seriously. It was not to buy time for a vaccine. That was never an option, it simply can't be done in time. Some ignorant people 'said' it was to get the vaccine', but every medical expert warned time and time again that it simply isn't possible to do that in months. If you go back and actually look at what was said at the time, you will see it was all about flattening the curve to save the medical teams. Frankly, this is re-writing history.
