Surely the fact that much of China's emissions are being created making products for the west needs to be considered in this.

I love how Gates is so desperately trying to paint himself as a good-guy, when it's exactly people like him who have helped create the mess in the first place...

It amazes me that people talk about potential futures without once acknowledging the fast approaching cataclysmic destruction and loss of life [not just human]. We still ain't gettin' it.

Ok, great; let's put 'literal poison' in our earth and hence our bodies then. Have a word with eastern europeans about that...

You do realise we are destroying the planet, yeah?

Reminds me of Churchill's apparent response to the idea of cutting the arts budget during the war... 'Then what are we fighting for?' As a result Britain was the only war time country to retain its art funding.

Wren is just about perpetuating the concept that it's individual responsibility... when really the problem, and hence solution, is systemic.

I was pointing at it going... But, but it's walkin the wrong way!

You guys should def make more calendars...

Brilliant, thanks, lots of factual info to inform my decision making and discussions. So basically my little bit in my tea and coffee each day isn't a problem [esp as I get my milk from a local org farm]. I had guessed as much, because I really notice it if I have too much [sinus problems]. I admit I'm sometimes tempted when I see a yummy looking milky drink, but this has confirmed to me to not go there. Also interesting to note that soy has greater emmisions than almond [which is my preferred plant mylk]. Tho I usually just make my own oat mylk, as it's the easiest.

I'm amazed that some people could survive! This had elements of Douglas Adams in it. I bet he would have loved this channel.

It's so annoying when scientific facts get in the way of your much clever opinions, huh.

@8is While playing nasty underhanded tactics to destroy better options to his products.

@klarahaplova9098 I have.

@adamjover9116 Oh, they're gone now... well, that's ok then.

Makes sense too from a broader picture, nature doesn't need as many population checks on larger animals as habitat limitations naturally keep their numbers down.

Really good news.

Brains! BRAINS!

Where's Gromit?!

Congrats on the book... Looking forward ot it.

Lovely. I am, however, troubled by concepts such as 'Guardians of Nature'... That has the potential to perpetuate our enduring concept of 'ownership' over nature, rather than just being an actual part of it. It is this attitude to our living environment that has brought us to where we are now.
1
Fascinating stuff, but saying that the 'perfect' size is where we are now is pretty anthropocentric. The problem with the pages on the calendar is that on each page the largest text is 'YEAR 12, 023', when what that page actually needs to be large and clear is the month.
1
@Meitti Which they then use to make the products we buy... In fact, China are investing in alternative energy sources more than any other nation.

@AgentJRock805 Totally agree with the we-think-we-are-special observation, that we have 'civilised' ourselves into animal exceptionalism. We think we are above nature and beyond the evolutionary process. Life is not sacred. Even things like veganism is a big middle finger to the rest of the animal kingdom, that we are somehow above them. So it's not true to assume I am stressing, I'm not; I accept it's all too late now. And I agree the planet will be fine when we are reduced to a few. But I'm still gonna comment when I see humans completely ignoring the elephant in the room.

We need to end our obsession with economic growth in the West. The problem is not a lack of wealth, it's the poor distribution of that wealth. I remain suspicious of 'carbon capture'... it isn't working, and seems like a ruse of the fossil fuel industry. Plus, it would be no bad thing if we have less kids.

I found the 'background' music too loud, such that it was competing with the narration.

Obv, don't take existing nuclear off-line, that's nuts. But is this suggesting we stop the 'increased regulatory restraints' so we can save money building them? Yeah, no thanks. The fact is, the sheer cost of nuclear can no longer compete with other energy sources, inc. solar and wind with batt storage. The power which will come from the new plant being built in the UK (Hinkley) is going to be so expensive that multiple manf. firms have already said they are not going to buy it. But what was left out of this discussion is the presumption of endless economic growth. Why should we be blindly wedded to this idea, esp. in already rich countries? Their problem is not needing more wealth, it is wealth distribution. And just to be THAT guy; the bird on the wheel in the last bit was walking the wrong way to go forward.

It doesn't have to be the State that does it... it can be done cooperatively.

0.48 'A clean process that can't harm anyone...' 5.30 Bird in the ocean gets obliterated by 'heat-shielded capsule'...

Now I want to build that house.

Nuclear was an important transition fuel, but we have already passed that point. Nuclear is by far and away the most expensive source of energy, and that's often without taking the waste disposal into account, [and yes, Kurzgesagt, would love to see a deep dive into that]. All the renewables are now cheaper, and at the end of the day, that will likely be the deciding factor.

V. timely topic...

'And a flaming star of nuclear death is born'...

You do realise that the main way they have of making the quality content you enjoy so much is through the merch. So it's not 'overpriced', it's funding the content you consumed without paying for.

Couldn't we go back to seeing the original if we wore air equipment, like scuba gear?

It's gonna happen anyway.
