@dynamic75 You mean that people have more access to food-like substances that are, in fact, not food at all.

Please interview Gary Taubes, who is one of the world's experts on the subject of "calories in vs calories out" which is a hotly disputed subject in the world of obesity and nutrition science. Taubes is a physicist, from Stanford, and also an expert on obesity. The subject of "calories in vs calories out" is raising the issue of the second law of thermodynamics, which is a matter for physicists, and which is routinely incorrectly applied by medical doctors. Taubes wrote the best selling book "Good Calories, Bad Calories" and has been a science contributor in the world's most respected scientific journal, Nature.

I strongly agree with what you're saying. A great example is that by the 21st century you'd have to eat more than 27 apples to get the same nutritional value that would have been provided by just ONE apple in 1950. So you have to consume more than 27 times as many empty calories to get the same basic nutritional value.

Kyarrix, it's good to see a small number of people that actually have some education on obesity, such as yourself, posting here. It's a shame that the good doctor really has no clue at all obesity, but then again, his paycheck comes from the damned government. There are many top scientists who Andrew Gold could invite if he wants an intelligent conversation on this subject, so let's see if he does so. My only disagreement with your post is your contention that ALL overweight people could lose all of their weight and be lean. No, it's more like 80% of those who are overweight who COULD become lean. Still, it's a decent percentage. The other roughly 20% have chronic conditions causing forms of edema which locks up certain fat cells.

It's important to note that "fit" and "fat" are not opposites. "Fit" and "unfit" are opposites. "Fat" and "thin" are opposites. Many fat people are extremely fit in their musculature because their body weight is causing them to always be lifting weight. That doesn't mean they are healthy, but you are just as likely to be unhealthy if you're thin as if you're fat (roughly equivalent, statistically speaking).

@dynamic75 Yes there is.

Fat gain is not caused by "over-nutrition". Period. First define "nutrition". Empty calories are not "nutrition". The human body is also, like other mammals, homeostatic. So the issue is more complex that the short statement at the beginning of this interview. However, if I find the good doctor is making good sense in the course of the discussion I'll come back and edit my comment. Edited to add: Sorry, but this was not a very advanced discussion on obesity, when the good doctor is under the false impression that obesity is all about "calories in vs calories out". That is a false premise now very well established in science, and it is promulgated by people who are NOT physicists mis-applying the laws of physics. I suggest to Andrew Gold that he set up an interview with Gary Taubes, who IS a physicist (trained at Stanford) and who is widely considered the world's expert on the false idea of "calories in vs calories out" as the sole basis of obesity issues.

Are you Canadian? Anorexia is currently approved in Canada for having the government off you in their genocidal MAID programme.

@monsieurbennett I suggest you make your way instead. Most obese people are actually starved of nutrition as their body packs on fat. You need to do a bit of study to know that though.

Yes, the problem is caused by environmental factors.
