  7. Why chase down and threaten the child? Of course the man wasn’t going to harm her, but she didn’t know that. Why threaten her, even while reassuring her, or make her face that fear against her will? That’s assault, and disrespects her personal autonomy and judgment.

  8. If I had a child who was afraid of a friendly, well-behaved dog, I wouldn’t force him to play with him just to prove a point. Maybe I’d play with the dog, and show that I wasn’t afraid, but I wouldn’t make the child approach a fear against his will.
