G C So, maybe they should raise the wages? I can’t, as a job seeker, just go import a job from somewhere else. If I want a job, I have to apply and be chosen based on my credentials, experience, and skills. I have to compete for jobs, so why shouldn’t businesses have to compete for labour?

mbogucki1 That isn’t competing for labour, that’s importing an ideal situation. Can Canadians just order a nice cushy and remote 6 figure job online?

Lone Wolf But stolen land or something. Real Canadians are the indigenous ppl who existed here before Canada was a thing, or so I’m told...

Kirankmar Patel “I am unemployed because somebody took my job. That is the excuse” No, that is the straw man. The whole point in strengthening the economy is to better the lives of those residing within said economy. Not all types of growth are equal. Importing labour the way we have been drives up real estate prices (among other things) and suppresses wage growth (with contraction sometimes only being staged off my min wage laws). The result is growth, but a smaller per capita share and a transfer of surplus from consumer/worker to producer. With the majority of people falling under the ‘worker’ category and having no assets to call their own, they are excluded from the booms to asset and capital holders while watching their personal competitiveness and purchasing power dwindle. This abundance of labour, and a lack of any need to compete for it, creates a growing borderline underclass who, though they have access to the same services as other Canadians, lack the ability to pay into public revenues to such an extent that they are net contributors. As a result you see a decline in the quality of, or outright cancellation, of services as there is simply less per-person to allocate across the spectrum. But it was all worth it so that Tim Hortons can keep killing it and banks can stay propped up on real estate.
