We shouldn’t have shut down their livelihoods. They didn’t ask for this.

Really nice that you had the option to work. I didn’t ask for society to dash my livelihood and career plans. My buddy didn’t ask to have the company he’d spent years building cratered overnight by the irrational fears of a bunch of scared authoritarians. We hurt these ppl and their prospects. Now we, as a society, are responsible for helping them put their lives back together. Grow up. We don’t get to pick winners and losers and then just tell the losers to kick rocks when they ask us to put our money where our mouths are. ‘We’re all in this together’, right?

Yea, and those millions of ppl weren’t happy w having their lives and livelihoods turned upside down by a bunch of remote worker Covid hawks who didn’t have to eat the costs of making everybody else ‘feel’ safe. Whatever happened to ‘we’re all in this together’? Give your head a shake. Socialism begets socialism, and what you’re saying amounts to little more than, ‘society picked winners and losers, and you drew the short straw, now pay up’.

@bradcanning875 You’re leaving out the whole ‘equity’ part. As somebody shopping for a rental property I can tell you that a well developed suite adds more value than just that attributable to monthly revenue. That suite is a house below a house. You’ll pay at least $120K for a 600 sq ft condo right now. You think a house within a house can’t add $80K, especially over a few years of appreciation? You’re right, Brad; the math speaks for itself. You just don’t understand it. Somebody willing to build the sweat equity in their home can see a huge return, especially right now. There is a reason I’m not sweating over the cost of building a shop right now.

@screee5783 Ppl chose to go to post secondary. These businesses didn’t choose lockdowns. Nobody forced ppl to go to school. We forced these businesses to close or, in the very least, we forced their revenues into hibernation. Comparing them to students is apples to oranges.
