Saucy Jack “Nobody’s investments are destroyed” What? If people spent $10s of thousands on hunting gear or target shooting gear that they can now no longer legally leave their home with, I’d say that’s a man investment destroyed wouldn’t you? Grandfathering in just means you have a fancy paper weight, assuming you need to weigh down papers in a locked safe. “None of them are needed in Canada” Let me know when I can drop by your place to take all and everything that I feel you don’t need. I mean, that’s your criteria right? “I can say with some certainty ... purpose in Canada” Yea, other than the purpose you just stated that you yourself use firearms for. That being competitive shooting. The only thing you are saying with certainty is that YOU have no purpose for them. That’s quite different from what many Canadians who also shoot competitively will tell you, so stop intentionally misrepresenting the community. “I won’t be out any investment since nobody will be seizing them” So if somebody buys a car, and then cars are banned the next day, was it still a good purchase?

You know in Canada you vote for a party and their platform right?

Canadians will always think themselves better than Americans. Smug might be the only part of our national identity that still remains...

Saucy Jack “Nobody is seizing guns. It’s a ban” You know that seizing the now illegal property is part of banning that property right? They are just giving Canadians 2 years to bend the knee willingly before they comb through existing restricted firearms records (and maybe even assemble a database from retail records) to go after delinquent firearms owners.

PP C Lol buy back. With what $ after Covid. $600 million won’t even come close. Are they gonna buy the optics and accessories? The plate carriers? All the mags? Some people have upwards of $10K invested in one firearm. What about the costs of administration? Are they actually going to enforce it? How much will that cost in policing and in the courts? I’m with you. I don’t expect a fair value buy back, if any but back at all. And before somebody tries to tell me to go sell the optics and accessories off privately, keep in mind this means a huge glut of supply is hitting a market that has essentially lost all use for it, so there is no demand. Optics and accessories often cost WAY more than the firearm itself, and now they will only fetch a heavily discounted price. Thanks government.

Zepher It’s only worse if you assume linearity, and we know linearity doesn’t apply with regards to how the virus spreads (exponential growth). If you don’t take into account how population is distributed across the land mass then you aren’t really doing an apples to apples comparison.
1
Zepher Mind just telling me and I’ll take your word for it? A good natural experiment can make for a good argument, especially when there isn’t much else to go on yet.
1
Zepher And yea, it absolutely isn’t simple. That’s why I’m a little more hesitant right now to throw shade at government than I normally am, and I’m not really a pro gov guy. Who the hell knew how to handle this properly. Just the logistics of it. Apparently the German finance minister killed himself early in (or so I was told). I just don’t really see the point in focusing so much on what happened when everybody was flying the seats of (and ****ing in) their pants.

Zepher They certainly appeared to hold out better by the numbers (without some accounting for population distribution). At the same time though, the US and Canada aren’t really comparable in terms of how gov is administered at the fed level relative to state/provincial level. They have 50 states with a lot more autonomy than the provinces. In many ways the results for one’s state in the US were determined more by how states around them reacted than they were by, say, Trump and his admin. I’m not saying you aren’t right, just that I don’t really see the point in trying to make a comparison, especially still so early in. Nobody even trusts most of the numbers anyway. It’s a complete ****show.

Actually he didn’t pass a law. They are just going through existing regulation. It was already law that they could just change the regulation as they see fit, and they are just banking on the political benefits outweighing the political costs. I think that, should the separatists in the West truly seize on this and other going’s on during the lockdown, Trudeau and his team will have miscalculated.

Yes yes. The team that isn’t your own team is the only team doing the bad things. We know. Curse the other team and their ways! If they were only as virtuous and gracious as ourselves, the world would be perfect like us.

Few of us will die ‘now’. It’s different.
