  2. It’s actually the other way around. TFWs who don’t plan to stay can have it pretty good. Where I’m from in Canada they are often paid a bit more than other workers, but they are also often tied to some pretty strict and limiting contracts. That said, imagine sending $Cdn back to your family in Mexico or the Philippines. I worked with a guy who saved up $20K and literally bought his family a starter home in cash. That won’t even clear most ppl’s student loans. Another was building a small food cart empire with his brother. He sent back the money to expand and his brother ran operations. How long would it take to save up to buy a house in full here working min wage? In the end, it’s insane that TFWs are considered essential during a recession.

  3. madd maxx Canadians are more than capable of doing the jobs. Employers are just better than individual citizens at lobbying for more favourable labor market equilibriums. That said, most TFWs I know are awesome ppl, and the boon to their’s and their family’s lives is a nice silver lining on our government and employers having thrown us under the bus.
