  4. @Jeff Johnson UBI, so they say, would be scaled back w income. Kinda like ppl w Covid, they’d be taking cash work on the side while collecting their $2K/month or w/e it ends up being. You can’t give everybody UBI w/o simultaneously clamping down on tax evasion/defrauding UBI.

  5. @Jeff Johnson If it scales down w income, ppl will take cash jobs just like they did w Covid. Ppl couldn’t staff their businesses because many would only take a cash job while on CERB. If you are taking cash work and not reporting it, so as to avoid losing CERB/UBI, then not only are you defrauding welfare, but you are withholding potential tax revenues. Depends on the amount of work/cash. I agree it’s not ‘UBI’ technically if it scales, but UBI also wasn’t originally supposed to exist alongside existing services like public health care. It was supposed to be the one hand out to replace them all. Alas, that is not what ppl think it is or how they discuss it anymore. Canadians expect health care w their UBI.
