We can find and access the information/knowledge easier than ever, yet we need a piece of paper saying that we paid somebody to read it to us in order to get a job more than ever. Funny how that works

@TT-fq7pl Does it need to be though? I don’t think so. Plenty of ways to learn and test that don’t require paying somebody to read to us for 2-5 years (or more). It is a racket, and the racket needs to die.

@shuttayouface9036 Yea, but that is how it should go when you stop delivering a solid product and just import demand. Universities and colleges have forgotten who/what they are. Time to go back to being institutions devoted to the exploration and development of knowledge. Now they are just degree/diploma mills.

@TT-fq7pl You don’t need to go to college to become an artist.

@TT-fq7pl Can new connections not develop? It just seems like another way ‘schools’ assume a sort of gate keeping role. Pay to play. Art should speak for itself, should it not?
2
@TT-fq7pl I think the new system is right in front of us. The quicker we ditch the old and outdated, the quicker markets will pivot towards self teaching and portfolio driven opportunities. The tech is already in place.
2
@my2iu Government shouldn’t be subsidizing it anyway.
2
Or we just let the market do its thing. Uni/college is outdated. Glorified gatekeepers. Apart from lab work, all you need is a computer and the will to learn today.
2
So, we should all have lower standards of living so that universities can gouge foreign rich ppl and keep raking in $ while delivering trash ‘education’?
2
@tomato-v8x They don’t teach calculus in middle school.

@TT-fq7pl If art schools disappeared, how would your average artist be hurt?
1
@TT-fq7pl Thx for being civil
1
@my2iu Is that a system you wish to maintain?

@TheAircool1 Or we stop pretending that universities and colleges are the only way for ppl to be educated. Literate/educated ppl aren’t rare anymore, we don’t have to transport books by horse and buggy anymore or have scribes manually copy their contents by hand, and computers do a better job of teaching (and in a language you can actually understand!!) than most ‘educators’ today. Time to let those w some initiative to learn on their own shine, instead of letting gatekeeping institutions manage access to our pay to play economy.
