It was an objective, but given how many resources they pumped into northern Ukraine, their main goal was clearly to take over the whole country.

@Nonyobiz - He packed most of his forces to Kyiv before being forced to pull out I think if New Russia was his goal, he would have gone about this much differently and not escalated to a full blown invasion.

@Nonyobiz - These are basic estimates. 15,000 were sent at Kyiv at least and up to 35,000 at most. For just one region, that's significant given the initial invasion force only consisted of 190 thousand men across all of Ukraine.

@Nonyobiz - Well, yeah. They had basically no resistance. 90% of currently occupied Ukrainian territory was taken without a fight. Not really impressive at all.

The Russians sent significantly more than 1,000 soldiers towards Kyiv. Russia sent at least 15,000 soldiers and up to 25,000 soldiers into Kyiv the region alone. They attacked from the North and East of Kyiv along with aircraft pounding the country. Also, there are NO fascist elements of the Ukrainian government. Truth has never been on Russia's side ONCE in history. Not once.
