  1. Kaliningrad used to be Königsberg which was a point of contention between Germany and Russia for centuries. It was a point of attack of Teutonic Knights against Russia in the Middle Ages. You can understand why Stalin wanted to take it away from Germany after WW2 if you watch 'Alexander Nevsky' which is a classic movie directed by Sergei Eisenstein back in the good old Soviet Union in 1938.
