Tale of two vehicle platforms:
'01 S10 [4.3 w/5pd] that is @382k (miles) on original engine. 21 mpg. OC's at 3k. Consumes 1qt oil in 2.5k (miles)
Components failure: 4 radiators, 3 water pumps, 2 starters/fuel pumps/intake reseal/ignition triggers ,1 alternator & distributor. 4 sets front rotors & oil cooler lines
'06 Scion TC w/auto. 118k [miles]. 26 mpg. OC's at 3k. no oil consumption between OC's.
Components failure: 1 water pump/idler pulley/alternator, high pressure AC line (from compressor), several sets of coil packs (#2 cyl seems problematic), one set of CV's, several sets of ft/rear brakes.
S10 purchased @51k, Tc purchased @80k. One previous owner each.
In a previous life; two decades as auto tech/machinist/performance engine builder.
Past four decades as Comm. pilot (corp/private jets). I have a 'slight' understanding of mechanical platforms.
I expected the S10 to consume parts [given the mileage], and surprised/disappointed on the Tc's consumption.
Perhaps lucky w/S10, not so much with Tc.
Happy Motoring to all (*.^)
