Vandals, who trash and destroy should NOT be allowed to get away with such deliberate and antisocial actions. The idiot who "let them off" is sending the message that their actions were acceptable - which could encourage other similarly minded, simple fools to do similar. THEIR opinion regarding the statue should NOT permit them to damage public property. Were ALL FOUR of them morally outraged by Colston's legacy - or was it mob rule and wilful vandalism - for the sake of it? I think we can all answer that! The blinkered, biased, professor's argument was irrelevant - the crime before the court was not Britain's poor historical record - it was vandalism caught on camera - no mitigating circumstances - wanton destruction. They should have been dealt with firmly - they are criminals - filmed committing a criminal act. The issue is not about Britain's vile history - it is about maintaining law and order today! This is a landmark FAILURE of the justice system - by a weak judge.
