Jamming will not work with advance communication system. With narrow beam wide spectrum radio system. The jammer will need to output 1000 times more energy to completely saturate the communication spectrum with noise. Even with complete spectrum saturation there are techniques to communicate at very low bitrate below the noise floor. Then there are direct counters like anti radiation missiles. When you are outputting so much energy to jam communications then it is very easy for a missile to home in towards the source of all the noise and physically destroy the jamming equipment.

Many see the tanks as gun platform and fail to realize that giant guns are not needed. Yes it is nice to have but it cost more than it is worth. Just like the gun platform of the see the battleship becomes obsolete so is the main battle tank becomes obsolete as the gun platform of the land. Missiles can do what tanks can do at a cheaper price.

@georgemorley1029 For main battle tanks yes. But mechanized artillery and armored personel carrier are still very effective and needed. Instead of MBT a short range light weight MLRS could take over the rule of fire support.

@SarevokRegor Advance communication use frequency hopping and beam forming techniques. The jammer would need to broadcast on all channels to defeat frequency hopping. Beam forming focuses the energy into one direction to reduce energy needed for communication. Jammer needs unidirectional broadcast otherwise the reciever could identify the source of the noise and ignore it using gain beam forming. Beam forming allow 32X gain then combine that with frequency hopping on 32 channels. That forces the jammer to need 1024x more energy to effectively saturate the whole spectrum. Drones that can be jammed are not using this advance communication techniques.

Radio dampening is not possible. You need to expend 1000 times more energy to saturate a spectrum compared to the energy to overpower the dampening. Also outputting so much energy is a homing beacon for an anti radiation missile to go and destroy the dampening equipment. You can salt the land with radioactive particles but that would kill the soldiers you are trying to protect.

There are limits to material science. Modern shape charge munitions are effectively plasma weaponry. On impact they create plasma that eats trough any material. There is just no physical material that can hold a hot plasma and this has been research a lot for fusion reactors.

@Frenchfrys17 What about triple and quadruple charge munition. With modern guidance system you can have two missile to hit the exact same spot one after another. If each missile carries a tandem charge then that is effectively a quad charge munition.

@Frenchfrys17 The first one seems vulnerable to kinetic penetrator followed by a shape charge missile. This can even be a single missile that have a nail penetrator driven by an explosive charge that is set to explode a few meters before the missile hit the target. The second one will not protect against twin missile since the first one will set off the protective charge allowing the following missile to hit the same spot.

@SarevokRegor Modern cellular communication divides a message into multiple packets then schedules transmission of this packet into available channel slots. If similar system is use for resilient communication then the jammer could not simply follow the frequency hopping because the transmitter will just transmit the packet on the channel that have low noise. The reciever will similarly listen on all channel and receive the message packets then stitch them up into a coherent message. For beam forming the narrower the beam the greater the range but this range is also affected by the signal to noise ratio. A jammers job is to raise the noise to overpower the signal. But beam forming allows the receiver to ignore the noise from other directions so a jammer needs to increase their power output to overpower the signal. This is equivalent to cupping your hand behind your ear to reduce the noise behind you and hear what is in front of you more clearly. Only beam forming is a lot more precise and the increase in signal clarity is a lot sharper.

@SarevokRegor Figuring out the correct signal is very easy with encrypted communication. The key is that the jammer needs to jammed all 32 channel while transmission can pick and choose one channel. Degraded communication is not a problem when a single channel has enough bandwidth to service several smartphone all streaming video at the same time. Geometry prevents the jammer from interfering with narrow beam communication. The jammer needs to be at the path of the beam otherwise they are at 32X power disadvantage. And a drone could easily fly to avoid the jammer from being in the path of the beam.

@AnonD38 The idea is HIMARS but lighter. A drone launch system that can be mounted on a pickup truck.
