@matsv201 Computer chips are already hybrid. SRAM that are use in caches are analog circuits.

@peterpeterson4800 It can be done but you will need to do more math than what you reduce by processing in analog. Cellphone technology uses a lot of noise reduction and error correction on analog signals. The math becomes very complicated very quickly.

@HazyHerbivore You will need to do more math removing interference in your results than what you gain doing multiplication in analog.

@antytrend A lot. this how some people can taste sound or hear colors.

@matsv201 You can design a digital SRAM using latches but that uses to many transistor. The 6 transistor SRAM cell design is analog in operation. The process when reading is to precharge a drive capacitor and have a sense amplifier detect which line is discharging faster.

@matsv201 And that is the problem with analog error compound so you convert to digital where error correction is cheap. This means you want to keep your data digital and convert only to analog when you have significant gains like reducing complexity and transistor counts. So far digital calculation is cheaper in complexity compared to digital to analog converter + analog computation + analog to digital converter.

CPU is already a hybrid. SRAM use for caches are actually analog circuits. But the problem with analog is that errors compound so you need to convert to digital in every step to prevent errors from dominating the values. Yes you can multiply two values easily using analog but your result also multiply the errors.
