  1. It is complicated but the idea is simple. Heat pumps need a source of heat for efficient operation. There are a lot of subsystems in an electric car that produce heat and needs cooling. So you need a system that gather and direct hot and cool coolant fluid towards the subsystem that needs it. This way the heat pump have good supply of heat from waste heat and you are cooling the system that needs to be cooled at the same time.
