  1. Yes it is possible but it will take a complete redesign of the device instead of just a motor replacement. The reason why it could not gain better efficiency is because they did a quick modification of the device instead of a complete redesign from scratch.

  2. In the power window example the heat generated is the same. If that device was redesigned to work at 4X more RPM to compensate for the 1/4 reduction in current then 48V will produce less heat.
