  1. China gains nothing if they help Russia but they will gain a lot if they don't do anything. China borders Russia and if Russia collapses they can expand into Russia's territory. Vladivostok is a rich gas field and very accessible to China.

  5.  H L  China can still buy their cheap gas from Russia without helping them. Russia has no one to sell their gas if they stop selling them to Europe. So China can still get their discounted gas and then annex Vladivostok if they wait patiently and do nothing.
