  2. Oh sure by that reasoning Occam’s razor tells us that East Germany really was a German democratic republic and that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea isn’t really a totalitarian state. Hitler objected to the use of the word socialist in the name of the Nazi party but went along with it then completely redefined what the word meant. Ignoring that and simply going by the use of the same word isn’t applying Occam’s razor. it’s simply idiotic.

  4. If you pay careful attention to what Hitler actually says you will see that over and over again he advocates a conservatism that is most traditional, almost primal. He appeals to an ancient sense of German tribal identity and advocates the use of traditional power structures to preserve and invigorate it. While true socialists have appealed to naturalism as a foundation of their thought enlightenment rationalism and attempts to perfect all of humankind through science are undeniable in their thought. The Nazis rejected rationalism and any possibility of perfecting all of humankind. National Socialism is an inherently irrational and tribal belief system founded more on mysticism and myth than fact. If you spend any time studying the Nazis’s fascination with the occult and German folk myths it’s impossible to miss this. It should also be obvious that the last thing on earth the Nazis wanted to do is raise up ALL people. How can you possibly do that if you believe that most people are subhuman meant to be slaves of the master race?

And there are too many important books to read to waste time on propaganda. Instead of doing that you should read the original sources in the history of ideas that show you how Nazism and Socialism developed as described by the people who developed those ideologies beginning in 18th century Europe. Have you done that?

  12.  @mistymoor7114  What’s not helpful is ignoring what Hitler actually said and did once he got into power, because that forces you to abandon the cherished idea that we can banish this evil monster and genocidal ideology to the left which we hate instead of having to acknowledge that evil can happen on the right. But there’s no way around this if you see the things that Hitler said and did. He simply didn’t articulate leftist ideology govern as a leftist. Instead he reduced the rights of workers, doing away with regulation on private business, privatized industry, refused to nationalize private property, and allowed private corporations to become richer and richer all throughout his rule. Far from enacting a leftist economic program he showed complete hostility to the idea and had advocates of it executed.

By sticking with communism? They still have a lot more state ownership than say existed in Nazi Germany but their economy is prosperous because it’s mostly authoritarian capitalist. Again, It’s not the labels they use that matter: it’s what they do.

But it is important to draw distinctions between forms of authoritarianism of the left and forms of authoritarianism on the right. They’re not all the same. They are not all socialism. Otherwise we’re not looking in all directions where authoritarianism can originate from.

He safe guarded and preserved the wealth and power of German capitalist just like he said he would. There was nothing remotely close to the mass confiscation and redistribution of wealth in the Soviet union or even in Britain under Clement Attlee. At some point you people are gonna have to accept that depravity exists within human nature and not just on one end of the political spectrum. There’s much good thought within conservatism but it’s not immune to evil either.

  26. Yeah I think framing it in religious terms is a telling reveal of a total lack of objectivity and inability to see things outside of a messianic “us versus them” perspective. That will only give you a warped view of history where you seek to purge your “side” of anything unholy, such as Nazism. The problem is that authoritarian structures have been on the right for far longer than the left as we know it has even existed. So there’s no way to identify something as left just because it’s authoritarian. And that’s really all you’ve got as a means to label fascism as leftism.

But there’s too much more to left and right ideology that separates them other than just authoritarianism and authoritarianism being found in both you can’t simply say that subverting the individual and oppressing him is a feature only of the left. The left in fact was born in response to the tyranny of traditional e.g. conservative European monarchical regimes against the individual.

But some of its core principles include redistribution of wealth according to need and basing access to resources on the presumed equality and equal rights of all people. Fascist ideology like Nazism is dedicated to eliminating precisely any assumption of equality or equal rights: it’s their primary goal. Instead it seeks to secure masters and slaves, killing anyone who has neither the “right” to be a master nor is useful as a slave.
