Comments by "Fast Er" (@Dgannt) on "New Audi A4 2016 review - finally better than a BMW 3 Series?" video.
This same magazine drove the brand new Audi RS3 against M3 and Honda Type R too see how fast they are. Unfortunately, even as it's very fast in straight lines, once again the Audi showed a lot of understeer when it was pushed i the corners and that car is supposed to be one of the more sporty ones. Great cars in cabin quality and refinement and safety (quattro and built in understeer) but no drives car. No wonder many families get an Audi during the time they have small children.

upload9595 Yes he said understeer in the M3 also, but ONCE, while he kept mentioning understeer in every corner with the Audi. Also I did not mention anything about which car was fastest as it's a very short track and did not do justice to the more powerful Audi and BMW. Even as the Honda Type R is very impressive, on a longer track with longer straights and longer curves, the 2 more powerful cars will have a bigger advantage than on short tracks. I'm sorry but except for R8, all Audi cars have built in understeer thanks to the entire engine being in front of the front axle ( a reverse 911 but worse). Electronics and torque vectoring has helped a lot in recent years but they need to move that engine back a lot, which they have acknowledged themselves.

upload9595 In your video link they are comparing an Audi S8 vs a BMW Alpina B7. First, it has been tweaked by Alpina and rides on their ridiculous big wheels with very thin tire walls that reduces the cars agility and grip, something noticed by many auto journalists (and god knows what they did to the engine to make it under preform so much). I agree S8 is a great car but you can find countless of video where not only Audi but also Mercedes loses in comparison to BMW. And there is always 2 issues mentioned with Audi, numb steering (as also mentioned in your video)and understeer which makes it hard for an Audi to be a drivers car. Uncorrupted steering (no driving on front wheels) in one of the essentials for a good drivers car, and good balance. You find those 2 in almost any BMW. But then again, Audi has it's own strong points that are better than BMW, namely more luxurious cabins and quattro that is better on snow and gravel.

upload9595 No really, a car with a balanced chassis will be quite fast on most surfaces. Having AWD doesn't automatically mean you have good grip and are fast. A car with a chassis that has no good balance will lose grip (even in dry) despite having AWD. You don't believe me? Look at this video: watch?v=-3jWVTKYcP0 It's common people think AWD is the answer to sooo many problems but reality is very different. Listen to the very last sentence in the video please. They too tell what is the most important in a car.

Gerald Holley Miles ahead? 0,2 is miles ahead? And the Type R is purpose built for track and to beat Seat Cupra and Megan trophy around the Ring, which it did. I ask you too to watch this video and see what is the most important in a car for having grip and going fast. A hint, it's not AWD. watch?v=-3jWVTKYcP0

***** upload9595 I'm trying to make "upload9595" understand the terminal understeer built in the Audi design but he thinks I'm talking about grip levels. Say AWD and some people think it's magic and fixes everything. Of course AWD is always good in slippery conditions but it has it's limits and the cars balance sets those limits. R8 is praised specifically because of it's perfect balance but front engine Audis have very little balance. It's electronics and torque vectoring that makes the cars turn. And you can order almost any BMW with AWD also (X-drive) if you live in areas with a lot of snow. On dry a BMW almost always beats an Audi around a track despite often having less power. The Audi is fast from point to point in a straight line but loses in the curves. Just look at the new RS3 in the other video here and it's crazy how much it understeers in curves despite being a new car. And Mercedes AMG are not exactly know for good chassis balance. That is why they are called European muscle cars or smoke machines..
