Conversions also need to be made within one system for derived units such as millibars and mm Hg.

*to. What ELSE DIDN’T you learn in elementary school?
2
@TheBLGL It’s not more difficult. How of do you have to convert units?
2
Not to mention that Kg is NOT a WEIGHT UNIT!
2
Only kilos are a unit of MASS, Newtons (mass * 9.81) are units of WEIGHT, but that doesn’t fit their narrative.
2
It’s impractical since we have legacy things that go back several decades, and it would be difficult to suddenly start using a different measurement system. Besides, it works for US, so why should it matter to outsiders?
2
Considering that we are still flying B-52’s designed in the 1950’s, I can see why.
1
Kilos aren’t units of weight.
1
You aren’t WEIGHING the food if you are using KILOGRAMS!
1
@markb20 And manually dividing things into 2’s and 3’s.
1
Now if only metric enthusiasts could understand that Kg is a unit of MASS, not WEIGHT (Newton). Of course that 9.81 factor doesn’t fit the narrative. Or that 1013 millibars is one Atmosphere.
1
@musefan12345 The rest of the world is much smaller.
1
It’s irrelevant in science, just track/verify the units!
1
It could also happen due to different units using the same system such as mm of Mercury versus millibars.
1
Only the spacecraft were designed using imperial units. How many POUNDS of thrust did the Saturn V generate?
1
I know from experience that the USAF DOES NOT! GLOBALLY, altitude is in FEET, speed is is KNOTS (nautical MILE per hour), pressure is in INCHES OF MERCURY, runways are in thousands of FEET, thrust and fuel is in POUNDS, and so on.

Irrelevant

Take a chunk of ground meat and divide it up into 10 equal portions…versus 2 or 3 or 6.
1
You are free to use whichever you want.
1
The other advantage of that is having fewer people talk to you.
1
I’m an Engineer and it really doesn’t matter. Don’t you have computers?
1
@eionthegod Can you “walk off” meters and centimeters?
1
You a a list cause. Hypothetical. What good is math without practical applications?
1
Temperatures are much better in Fahrenheit. Besides being 1.8 x “more accurate” (using whole numbers) than Celsius, the range is also much better suited to “normal” environmental temperatures. 0F is really cold and usually the lower end of winter temperatures are 100F is really hot and usually the upper end of summer temperatures.
1
And they seem to think that kg is a unit of weight instead of a unit of mass because of that dreaded 9.81 factor (to get Newtons) that destroys their neat little “decimal system“.
