  1. The net energy used is the same, you are just taking some heat out of the ambient air in the house which has to be heated. Of course, if you heat your house with anything besides resistive electric, that should be less expensive.

  20. I think that others have hit on this, primary on duty cycle, smaller room, less time on at the same power. Also heaters that have “good” fans and oscillate can more effectively distribute the heat throughout the room. A heater with a small fan that doesn’t oscillate will begin to cycle on and off if there is a thermostat.

  31. Yes, that actually happened to me…ONCE, IN OVER 55 YEARS!!! When I was around 10 years old, a pair (is it really a pair) of scissors fell off of my bed headboard and hit the plug that was slightly exposing the prongs of the plug, causing a momentary arching. I can’t remember if this broke the breaker, since it was like 45 years ago, but I remember seeing grooves in the plug due to the “welding effect“. Very improbable event, but quite fascinating!
