My Grandfather served in WW2 (Canadian)and was given the knickname Jam Charlie because he would steal the officers little pots of jam and give them to the injured men. After a while, he noticed the jam pots were deliberately being left out where he could easily take them . The officers, having realized what Grandad was doing, willingly played along with his pilferage lol.

Last spring, I was diagnosed with Arterial Flutter and severe tachycardia. Medication did little to slow progression and i quickly got to the point my heart was - in the words of my dr- getting tired from being overworked. In July I was hospitalized and received a Cardioversion - a process where your heart is shocked to the point it stops for about 15 seconds then (ideally) starts again in a normal rhythm. My heart surgeon had to shock me 4 times. (apparently this is rare and was a first for her lol)

Of course not. It makes canada and america look bad. Only the bravest and most honest history teachers will discuss it. I was blessed to have one such teacher in grade 6.

family legend tells the story of one of the death of one of my cousins in the 1800s . Since it was a small town, a funeral was a major social event. Her family was well to do so was able to afford a coffin with a little window . As the mourners filed past for a final look, one of my Uncles noticed mist on the inside of the glass over her face! Yep. She was still alive. They opened the box and got her out but for the rest of her life she was regarded as the person who spoiled the funeral by not having the decency to stay dead!

Mince pie today is a mixture of raisins, currents , apples and sultanas mixed together and baked into a pie. It's delicious!

@einwolfsrudel I'm so sorry about your foot! 100 years ago , it would have sucked much. We had a history fair here about 10 years ago with play actors ..pirates.. villagers..constable etc. One area had a historian dressed as a ship's surgeon from 1750. He had some truly horrifying ...equipment! A bone saw. A drill. A mallette. Even scarier was a 2ft long pointed chunk of wood. He told me it was a splinter. A SPLINTER! Said back then a log like that would fly through the air of your ship, was hit with a cannon ball and impale itself in your body. He said..if it was your belly,or torso you were doomed but if it was your arm or leg you would meet his trusty friends...and picked up a bottle,of rum (for anesthesia and disinfectant) and the bone saw! If you survived and didn't get gangerine, you were rewarded with your very own peg leg as a prize!

The so called proof with their teeth is just stupid. Every woman on my Dads side of our family was born with 6 toes. Except me and a cousin. If you follow that genetics guys reasoning, there is no way my cousin and I are related to our family. And given the fact we both have our Grandmothers eyes , it's pretty clear we are lol

LMAOOO id LOVE to see you talk about the Nova Scotian and Newfoundland accent 😂😂

@Mr110074 yup in fact people were often buried with a string tied to their wrist that lead to a bell above ground. If they woke up the bell would ring and the guy guarding the grave Would dig them up lol

@kmfx2425 it is a lot for a child to take in. I had an easier time accepting it , partly because I was older i guess but also because I had another extraordinary teacher in grade 4 who bravely taught us about the Nazi concentration camps.

in 2016, Holland made a special gift to Canada . The Canada 150 tulip. It was created, and designed especially for Canada to celebrate our 150 birthday. We have some in our front garden that we planted. So pretty!

2
@Momo-po5tn they had pow camps
2
@gel mibson yes, they did. The POWs who made it home were haunted for years by what they endured. There is no right side to a war there is only Us vs Them. Each side has to answer to the cruelty they inflict .
2
Other famous mistakes include - the chocolate chip cookie, popsicles, bandaids and ivory soap
2
This is clearly a sugar coated version of events. No mention of what those innocent people really endured. Starvation, abuse, disease, rape of the women and girls. Many froze to death in winter and died of heat stroke in summer. It was not some sort of holiday. It was pure hell on earth

😂 Olga played the long game

So grim yet so funny! 😂😂

Hey Herman, stop hogging the poop stick!

I knew a guy who thought it would be fun to toss live bullets into a fire. One of them exploded, fire hit his sleeve and he went up in flames. It was a horrific way to die

This was on every Sunday on CBC in Canada for years

Many of them were published under the name Mother Goose who was actually the chief editor of the London newspaper back in the early 1700s. He used them as a sort of 18th century political cartoon to comment on society and world news. For example Humpty Dumpty actually refers to a giant cannon that was so big, it fell apart and nobody could fix it.

@jackm3720 THank you! My electrophysiologist called it rebooting my heart lol
1
@jackm3720 haha when my Electrophysiologist explained why they would do , I joked they were going to reboot my heart like a glitched computer
1
@jackm3720 hahahahahha I've had it done twice so far. The second time was on Valentines day. (The irony of my heart trying to kill me on Valentines is not lost to me). Usually the good team will knock you out first but that time, the juice didnt work so I felt all 240 jolts . I joked now I know what it feels like to be stuck by lightning!

Edward Cornwalls was particularly evil. He was responsible for the deaths of thousands of indigenous people in Nova Scotia in the 1700s . His name has since been stripped from Halifax. His statue has been taken down and the park once named for him was renamed Peace and Friendship park.
1
@ad_kk16 ya it was taught when I was in school as well, but my parents never knew about it and were completely gobsmacked

Fun fact. The plague is still around.
