@redemptivepete both Kenya and Uganda got independence before 1963, you must be very old if you know any ex colonial officers of these 2 countries. Hong Kong is the only former British colony has the colonial memories in majority, the colonial officers treated us pretty good, we were overall satisfied with British rule, there were discrimination especially before the WW2, but the situation was improved later on

@redemptivepete the colonial officers left the colonies after independence as I know, they were either sent to Hong Kong or returned to UK. Many colonial officers were originally from other colony before they came to Hong Kong, they treated us pretty well

Hong Kong is much safer than UK, our street is cleaner than UK, our cost of living is much lower than UK, the machines in HK public hospitals are more advanced than UK. Because of capitalism, the salary of low skill workers are lower than in UK, but the salary of professionals are higher than UK after tax, so we may hire doctors, nurses, teachers etc with higher quality, patients in Hong Kong can receive better treatment, our children may receive better education in public schools.
