If affirmative action is bad, because it's giving a handful of people a chance to get an education they'd normally be denied...
Then isn't legacy admission a horrific thing? Isn't buying your way into a school a terrible thing? Because if someone can go to a school just because their parent did, or grandparent... or they can simply buy admission... then isn't that taking away the opportunity from countless people who would otherwise have EARNED those spots?
It's funny, because whenever someone brings up the idea of doing away with all of that, making legacies and paid access invalid, so that only those with the best grades get to attend... suddenly all the rich white folks get up in arms about it. Claiming that's unfair, and would hold them back. Isn't that simply admitting that the ONLY reason they're in the school is because they know someone or had the money to buy their way in, rather than actually being smart enough to attend?
If affirmative action is giving some people an advantage, why not make it purely based on academics? Oh, that's right, because all those hard working minorities have better grades, and that would flip things around where white people would be DEMANTING affirmative action to allow them access to higher education.

@ROCKLEEAC Nope, they're not going to be firing 70K nurses.
First off, there's no numbers on who will be fired yet, as they don't release that info until people are actually fired. But it's not going to be anywhere near 70K.
So far hospitals have only been letting go less than 0.5% of staff.
And remember that it's NOT just nurses and doctors. The layoffs include secretaries, janitors, orderlies, staff from cafeterias (cooks and cashiers and cleaning crew), electricians and plumbers, parking attendants, etc...
The right wing anti-American media would have you believe there are massive layoffs of just doctors and nurses. And that's simply a lie.
Just how FOX claimed that one county was laying off tens of thousands of cops who were refusing to get vaccinated. And people on the right were up in arms. There were all these reports on right wing media about cities that would be lawless. And when the actual numbers were released... ONE cop quit. Just one. But if you paid any attention to right wing media, you'd have thought half the force had left.
There are a handful of nurses who are saying they won't get vaccinated. And some of them might actually go through with it... but so far almost every single one has gotten the shot when it was a choice between than and losing their job. They want to be the center of attention... until they realize nobody gives a damn and if they want to be stupid and unemployed there's plenty of people waiting to take those jobs.
There's been reports of some companies having up to 300 staff quit. Again, this is ALL staff, from boardroom execs to line workers to janitors to security guards. And when you see those numbers, it sounds like it's a huge thing... until you find out that the company might have 50,000+ employees.
So far, there's been barely any people quitting over the vaccinations. And many of the job losses that right wing media has tried to blame on companies forcing a vaccine mandate are from companies like South West Airlines, which has lost a ton of employees... but they don't HAVE a vaccine mandate. Not yet anyway, though 99% of their staff are vaccinated already.
Of course FOX hates it when people bring up the fact that FOX itself DOES have a vaccine mandate, and uses vaccine passports (remember those things that were being compared to Nazis putting yellow stars on people?) to make sure who is vaccinated. And anyone not yet fully vaccinated needs DAILY testing.
Biden's recommendations are for large companies to either have people vaccinated or to do WEEKLY testing. So FOX has a much stricter mandate than what Biden has proposed. But mentioning that hurts their bullshit narrative. lol

So, I hadn't actually heard Democrats attacking her for her faith.
I've seen them attacking her for being against human rights, against women's freedoms, against women having control of their bodies.
I think someone brought up the fact that she said she wanted to create "god's country in America"... which isn't supposed to be something humans do, it's sacrilege or something, I don't recall.
But I don't remember anyone attacking her just for being Christian or Catholic or whatever.
Now, that's not to say they won't call her a hypocrite, or point out how she'll claim faith and actively fight against that faith, which is something more politicians that spout religious stuff do.
"The good book says love thy neighbor, but I say murder all the dark skinned people. I'm a good Christian."
Yeah, crap like that is fully deserving of scorn.
Also, the right loves to complain about the "war on Christmas" and blame liberals and such for it. But what about Melania and he "f*** Christmas" comments? Wouldn't the "war on Christmas" be coming out of the White House then?

"We reopened too fast."
No, the real issue was that most of the US never closed down properly in the first place.
You had some areas closing some things, down, while others stayed open. You had people going from high infection states to low infection ones, spreading the virus because there were no controls in place to prevent travel.
The US needed to close down EVERYTHING. EVERYWHERE. Every single state needed to close down at the same time, and stay close, enforcing masks and isolation for a month or two before slowly reopening.
Instead, nothing really closed, no regulations were in place, and things that still should not be open (like bars, clubs and gyms) opened up and suddenly there were massive outbreaks everywhere.
And the US pushing schools to open, without any safety procedures (you can enforce a dress code by can't enforce mask wearing?)... and just as everyone said, most schools had to close right back down after massive outbreaks.
With any luck, Biden will force a full closure of the country so that there can be some attempt at getting the virus under control.

@ROCKLEEAC No company has EVER been able to be held liable for a vaccine. The polio, rubella, smallpox vaccines... you can't sue a single one of them. So this is absolutely nothing new.
There is a secret vaccine court you CAN take appeals to. But most people don't actually know about that because they don't announce it. But if you go through the proper channels, you can try to make a case there.
And yes, we should always know what side effects come with medications. And we in fact do, because the CDC enforces that. And we know there are no side effects from the COVID vaccines.
As for other countries, there are investigations... though none have shown any actual side effects. They basically have a system similar to VAERS, where anyone can report literally anything, and then doctors have to investigate. There's been reports of blood clots, but they've not been able to link them to the vaccines.
Though it is possible in some countries that are using different vaccines than those available in the US. It's one of the reasons countries are so pissed that the US, Canada and the UK aren't sharing the patent for the vaccines, because then other countries could use the same ones North America has, which are proven to be completely safe.
There hasn't been a single confirmed death from the COVID vaccines. There are some reports people have made of heart conditions and such... but so far all testing has shown it has absolutely nothing to do with the vaccines (ignoring those who were just completely lying in the first place).
I get vaccine hesitancy. A lot of people are weary of a new drug. But these things go through insane levels of testing to make sure they're safe.
People say don't worry because there's literally nothing to be worried about.

@fitzcorraldo8570 America has become the home of racism, bigotry, intolerance, violence, fascism, treason and crime. You have political leaders openly committing treason and other crimes and never facing any accountability for it. You have white folk committing capital crimes and getting a slap on the wrist, while some black man who steals a backpack or doesn't return his neighbor's lawnmower on time gets 20 years in prison.
The Republican party are actively fighting to destroy the country, and the Democrats, despite having the power to do so, refuse to do anything to hold them accountable.
While never the shining utopia Americans loved to claim their country is, it did used to be a fair sight better than it is now. At this point the country is a complete failure. It likely won't last another year or two.

@coocoolefool Why blame it on the weather? Because it's better than admitting the systems you rely on are garbage. lol
They used the weather excuse as long as they could, but once info leaked that they were having system issues, they basically tried to get ahead of the story. Make it sound like yes, there was a system problem but they've got it all under control (even though it doesn't seem like it).
As for the health industry being affected... it's all relative. Doctors and nurses already need a bunch of vaccinations to work. So when a hospital decides the new vaccine is added to the list, the few who hadn't already been vaccinated do so without much fuss. Of course we're going to hear about those that DO make a fuss, despite them being the microscopic minority. The loud ones always get the attention.
There was one hospital system that let go some 100+ staff because they refused vaccination. And of course, FOX made a massive deal about it. The thing is, those "staff" were almost entire janitorial. They lost one nurse, and a whole bunch of janitors and secretarial workers. So no loss.
Then there was another hospital system that let go (temporarily) about 1300 or so I believe it was (they come back once vaccinated). And again, FOX sensationalized it making it seem like it was a massive amount of doctors and nurses. And again, most of those were NOT actual medical staff. And they also didn't mention that the 1300 people were let go from a hospital system that was employing almost 50,000 people. So it was a tiny fraction of their staff.
This is a great thing though. Nobody wants an anti-science doctor. You can't trust a supposed "doctor" who doesn't believe in medicine. So if some lunatic doctor or nurse wants to quit over it, let them. You're likely saving countless lives they would have cost with their idiocy and incompetence.

Safe injection sites work. That's been proven the world over. They drastically reduce the number of overdoses, and are a huge help in getting people clean.
And no, they do not make it "easier" for people to do drugs. These folks have their drugs and will be doing them anyway. The sites make it SAFER for them to do drugs. With medical staff on hand, with clean needles and safe smoke kits (which aren't just handing out crack pipes but are things like plastic extenders that you place on a pipe so that one person can use it then take off the extender to share with another, so that they're not infected each other with diseases), councilors who will help try to get people on the road to sobriety and help them find resources to get off the drugs.
But of course, all FOX will do is lie about what's involved, and try to claim that somehow this is making more people take drugs. Which is the opposite effect of what actually happens with these sites. Everywhere one is placed, drug use in the community slowly goes down, deaths from drug use plummet massively, more people get into rehab, and the community as a whole prospers. But that's the last thing FOX would want people to know, because it completely ruins their mindless "Biden bad!" message. Which is pathetic because there are countless things that Biden CAN and SHOULD be criticized for... of course all those things come from him essentially being a Republican and doing little to nothing for the people and constantly serving corporate interests. So FOX isn't going to call out how Republicans are absolutely horrific for America and serve no purpose whatsoever.

Yup. It's the idiotic cycle that ensures America is doomed.
Canada suffers the same.
Liberals get into power, do some good, but make some bad calls... so everyone then votes Conservative.
The Cons then devastate the economy, ruin jobs, increase taxes, cut rights, etc... and so everyone gets pissed and votes Liberal.
The Libs fix the economy, bring back jobs, lower taxes, improve rights... but fail to deliver on a couple of things... so everyone votes Conservative.
Back and forth they go, with the country slowly crumbling.
Meanwhile the NDP is sitting there, pushing everything EVERYONE in the country wants, but both Liberals and Conservatives ally against them because they know that if the NDP are given a chance to deliver, they'll dominate the government from then on.
It's the same reason Corporate Democrats and Republicans unite to fight against Progressives in the US. ALL AMERICANS want what the Progressives offer (better pay, better benefits, better healthcare, better everything) and Dems and Republicans are TERRIFIED of Progressives getting a strong foothold in government. Because once they do, they'll be able to constantly deliver for the American people. And that's the last thing Dems or Reps want to see happen. Progressives would also remove money from politics and end Citizens United. Which means all those rich politicians who are in office simply to destroy America and make a buck will lose their cash cow.

@jewsco The reports on VAERS aren't used. At least, they're not supposed to be, but right wingers have to get lies from somewhere.
Once VAERS goes through each report, they can examine if there's any truth to it. Reports that prove to be real can be added to actual medical databases. Anything else just gets tossed in the garbage where it belongs.
I could go on VAERS and report that taking the vaccine gave me wings. It's a lie, but I can still report it. My report on VAERS can't be used for any data or statistics, because it's obviously false, as is most of the reports on it.
Now, if I reported that after taking the vaccine I had X medical condition happens (something actually plausible like sweats or hives or something), and when investigating my report (and verifying with doctors and where I got vaccinated and my personal doctor and all) they confirmed that to be true, then it would be added to the actual databases that track adverse reactions. Or added to a study for investigation.
It's those databases and studies that people can use for data and statistics. The actual verified reports, not the raw data that isn't checked yet.

Republicans are holding an impeachment inquiry claiming that they need it in order to get evidence.
They lie and claim Biden isn't giving them everything. Despite the committee being given 20 years of the Biden family finances. Every bank record, business document, transfer, investment, etc...
Every person they've asked to testify has come in.
Every phone call, text message, email, etc... has been submitted.
There's literally NOTHING that Republicans haven't been given access to.
Meanwhile Democrats had ALL the evidence BEFORE they began the inquiry, and had their case ready to go.
They proved the orange traitor's guilt, TWICE. They got him impeached, TWICE.

Where's the evidence?
"Well, we believe...."
In other words you have absolutely no evidence. Evidence doesn't require belief, it's simply irrefutable facts.
If you have to say "we believe" then anything you say after that is 100% going to be lies and propaganda.
When they're prosecuting the orange traitor... they didn't say "we believe". They laid out evidence, testimony, documents, etc... PROVING his guilt. It's irrefutable.
There's no belief required. It's straight facts. He's guilty, here's the evidence.
When the J6 Committee proved that the orange traitor organized and incited the insurrection... it wasn't a matter of "we believe".
It was "here's the evidence that he organized and incited the insurrection". They laid out actions, texts, emails, talks with lawyers, etc... proving irrefutably that he organized and incited the insurrection.
Every single Republican "investigation" always starts with "we believe" and ends with ZERO evidence of any crimes.

@latentpotential4520 Except guns are ONLY used for murder. They have no other purpose. And they are vastly more effective at it, can be used without any real testing or checks, any random psychotic can pick up a gun and go murder people (as the US witnesses DAILY).
They are NOT "necessary". They are evil. They do NOT protect anyone. People who own guns are often killed by their own, either through accidents (or killing their kids) or by someone breaking into their house and shooting them with their own gun.
For every instance of someone actually "defending" themselves by having a gun, there's 100,000 instances of random murder and violence with one.
The supposed good in absolutely no way outweighs the evil they do.
Also enough with the idiotic bullshit about the civil war. First off Democrats own MORE guns than Republicans do. That's been known for ages. Second, there's no way in hell owning a gun will help in a civil war when the military will take you down from a mile away without you even being able to pull your gun out. Plus the gutless cowards on the right would NEVER actually fight a civil war. They despise America and everything it stands for, they will NEVER sacrifice their lives for the fascist authoritarian dictatorship they fight for, or their fellow Republican traitors. These people only care about themselves. If a civil war DID break out, 9 out of 10 right wingers would be taken out by the military, the rest would wet themselves and cry. These are people who throw a fit if they lose cell phone service for an hour. You think they'd survive a civil war where ALL utilities, phones, internet, etc are completely cut off, stores have no stock for the shelves, no gas is available at stations? They couldn't last a day like that.

In order to win their primaries, they have to out MAGA each other, being as stupid and extreme and fascist as possible. Screaming lies about CRT, trans people, abortion, immigration, racism, etc...
In order to win the general elections, they have to push much more to the left and drop all of that nonsense, because the people who vote in the primaries are a tiny portion of the overall voter pool, and the main group of voters don't want fascist extremists.
So you will not see non-fascist Republicans anymore. They've set it up so that they HAVE to be as anti-American as possible to get into the general elections.
