I'm in Canada.
Many years back, when my dad suffered a bad heart attack, he needed to be rushed to the hospital. They gave him a quadruple bypass. He had to stay in the hospital for a month recovering. They had him on a bunch of different top quality medications. He had a year of physio before he was back to where he was before the heart attack.
That whole thing cost us... the price of a monthly parking pass for the hospital. Because everything was 100% covered.
A couple of years ago, my dad took a tumble down the stairs. Got banged up and had a bad cut on his head. I rushed him to the hospital, where they took him in immediately. Gave him a full battery of tests, from x-rays to brain scans, to make sure there was no serious damage. They cleaned and stitched up his wound. Gave him pain killers and anti-inflammatories to take for a while. And basically gave him a clean bill of health, beyond being a bit bruised up, and he was home that night.
Again, we didn't pay a penny.
I have friends around the US who can't afford their medication. Who are TERRIFIED of having a serious accident because they know that it could bankrupt them.
A friend in Texas went through their dad having a heart attack. The bypass operation cost $120,000. Plus there were thousands and thousands in charges for medication, for hospital stay, for physio, etc... and even with their dad's company provided medical coverage they ended up having to pay $80,000 out of pocket. Had to take out a loan to pay for what their insurance wouldn't cover.
America's healthcare system is utter garbage. There are poor countries out there where people struggle daily, who can get vastly better healthcare than the US, and not have to worry about how much it will cost them. Healthcare is a basic human right. Any government that can't provide is failing at their duty to the people.

@charlotteritchie3338 Depends on the province, but mostly, yeah.
I had an accident years ago where I cracked my tailbone. Insane pain, I was stuck basically lying on my stomach for weeks, and then had quite a bit of recovery after that. Got paid time off from work to recover. My work paid full regular salary for two months, and 75% after that. Though I didn't need the full time.
My wife has recently gone back to school to improve her art skills (she does digital art stuff). Costs about $2500 a year. Have a friend in Texas doing similar, basically the same course (from the materials and notes they've compared), and they're playing almost $25,000 a year. It's insane. Basically the same course, but ten times the cost.
As for seniors, my mom is in a nursing home. Full care, room, all sorts of activities, nice stuff at the home (park, shopping, entertainment, etc). Costs her about $1800 a month. She gets about $2500 a month as senior social security. She's not actually worked in Canada other than running her own daycare, so she doesn't get a pension or anything like that. So she's doing pretty well. Everything's covered and she gets to save up for whatever she wants to do.
