So in related news... most members of the Palestinian General Authority (the ruling power in the West Bank) have willingly left office in order to bring in new members, due to a lack of trust in the existing ones. The GA will now be put in charge of both Gaza and the West Bank, with it's new leadership. As an effort, through US support, to officially create a Palestinian state (they are currently unrecognized territories). Biden's pushing to have the US codify it's support for Palestine as an independent state (similar to how they recognize Taiwan as an independent nation and have stated they will protect it from China). At the same time, Israel has finally started repayment of taxes to the General Authority (something which people said would never happen, much like the two state solution). This is critical in Palestine being a properly protected nation, and working towards a true peace (not just another ceasefire which will eventually be broken).

@PaulinAsia_ Yes, but the US doesn't currently. That's what Biden's changing. Right now US foreign policy views the West Bank and Gaza as "territories" controlled by the Palestinian Authority and Hamas respectively. Which is a large part of what has shaped US policy in the area. Biden is currently pushing through codifying US policy to acknowledge Palestine as a proper country. Which will greatly affect foreign policy. Sorry if I didn't word that properly. But this is a big deal. Because the US doesn't recognize borders of territories. So acknowledging Palestine as a proper country of it's own means the US will now have to respect it's borders, and can be more forceful on Israel for violating them.

@mohamadromzee7394 The point of this, is to change US foreign policy so that they support Palestine as an independent state (as they do with Taiwan). As well as to help set up a peace through a two state solution. With local nations enforcing a demilitarized zone between Israel and Palestine. The idea being to have local nations "police their own" rather than have a US "peacekeeping" force in the region which would only serve to further heighten tensions. Will it work? Can't say. But at least it's SOMETHING. Better than just sitting back and saying there's nothing that can be done. I'd rather see the US working towards peace and solving the issue than just giving up and leaving Palestinians to be slaughtered.
